The twenties is a vulnerable time in life. We think we know so much when we enter them. Life is full of mountains to be climbed, challenges to be conquered and no real thought of failing. Suddenly we’re on our own, and life is harder, decisions more complex and consequences bigger and longer lasting than we expected. By the time we leave them at age 30, one of the biggest things we’ve learned (if we’re lucky) is how little we actually know.

This painting is about that decade, those decisions. It’s that moment when, at long last, we begin to understand the complexities, appreciate the consequences. It is the moment we take that first, most important step on the long road to wisdom.
