This painting is about what a woman offers to the man of her heart. There is an innate conflict there; what it means to her is different from what it means to him, and the heart does not always choose wisely. In the end, the treasure lies not where either one sees it at first, but in the gradual exploration and appreciation of those mysteries the other person did not initially notice or, noticing, did not understand.
