Portrait No. 2 of fellow artist Bill in his Christmas finery.
You never know when someone's going to hit you in the heart. You paint together a few times, then a few times more, and they are just there, indelibly imprinted forever. Bill told the best jokes and was always making people laugh, plus he was a very good critiquer in our Wednesday painting group. He came to my house in East Falmouth to pose for me the last winter I was there. We talked and laughed and told stories while I took half a million photos. I didn't know then that I would be moving soon. He and his family stayed there, of course, like so many friends one leaves behind when one moves frequently.
But there he is in my heart, like so many friends. I was lucky this time. I have photos I can paint from, and I'm going to use them well.
